Here we are, we’re on the final dregs of fulfillment for The Great Crossing Heresies Kickstarter and the Cerdo Cycle. We’ve gotten almost all of our back catalog out to our warehouse space with Amplifier in Austin. I shipped our first wholesale order from the warehouse, and it felt good. We have the infrastructure in place to grow without invading our homes with books and boxes. I’d like to share a little more about two of our in development games and then share some promotional links for Mothership Kickstarters that we are looking forward to during Zine Month.
Mitosis
Our harebrained idea of an adventure with a player-facing, in-universe boardgames comes ever closer to reality. We now have a Kickstarter pre-launch page active for the game, and we’d really appreciate if you’d follow the project. We are hoping to go live on Kickstarter at the beginning of April.
I took product photos of the game using a light box, and my new iPhone 14 Pro using ProRAW to capture at 48MP. I used Lightroom for color correction.
After we took the photos, we got the prototype shipped of to Baltimore for Chris LaMartina, the creator of the WNUF Halloween Special, to shoot a trailer for the game.
The pamphlet adventure is coming along as well. Chris Airiau’s manuscript is bonkers, and he’s brought the wonderful Sigmacastell on board for the art for the 8”x16” quad-fold pamphlet adventure.
Orgy of the Blood Leeches
This module is hard to make. Amanda Franck delivered such amazing creature art, and Anxiety Wizard delivered such an incredible cover prototype that I have to bring my best writing game to do everything justice. I’ve brought on Christian Sorrell of MeatCastle Gamewear as the editor for this game, so we can make the best game possible.
This will also be the first Mothership adventure that I’ve ever seen with a real mature content warning on the cover, but we’re bringing it.
These grotesqueries start as pretty little leeches. Check out the final illustration for an Endocrine Leech. It’s like a delicate little sea cucumber.
The Endocrine Leech is designed to replace the endocrine system of a host. It changes the metabolic and hormonal response responses of the host. The metabolism speeds up, and the host is constantly hungry. Their body is flooded with estrogen and testosterone, acting as a powerful aphrodisiac and making all infected individuals androgynous. This leech is aquatic and has been found in sinks, toilets, and bathtubs. They can only survive out of water for 1 hour.
Dev Notes
I write a little inside out which is bewildering to my partner River sometimes. I think of creatures and behaviors first and one little slice of gameplay. This module is going to have some small spaces that rely heavily on random generation and a more dungeoncrawler presentation. However, these are not the entirety of the game, but I need to start there. I don’t know what the overall setting or format is going to look like until I’ve written creatures and some gameplay and NPCs, and then I will start writing areas one at a time. She made me step back and explain the bigger framework to her, and things made more sense. She has a much more traditional, AD&D 2.0 sense for ttrpgs, so her perspective difference helps my writing. To flesh out certain things better, I’ve blown up the format of the book from 36 to 52 pages along with an advanced rules zine. I haven’t written all of these pages yet, but I do product design and format while I write. I know that this is a boxed module, and I know the stretch goals and full product that I want to make. Now I have to just keep filling it in.
Promotions
Chris Airiau has a new zine hitting for Zine Month. This is a very cool module with a great team. It’s launching today (February 1, 2023). Back early for some special treats.
Hammer City Games is putting out their first Mothership zine for Zine Month. Graveyard of the Gods is a wild module where you delve into the depths of a corpse world and discover the fate of the long lost Star Gods. We’re distributing this module if it funds, so we’re definitely watching closely.
Molgannard Press has a module featuring Space Vampires coming to Kickstarter on February 7. The Sins of Eden Prime is an extensive module described as a Gothic Sci-Fi Horror Sandbox. We’re obvious fans of Gothic Sci-Fi Horror, and this looks like it’s gonna be a blast.
Hoss by Tim Oburmueller is the Curb Your Enthusiasm of Mothership modules. Hoss is a terrible person and the star of the show. Very excited for this.
